Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery. It fixes droopy, heavy eyelids. The procedure can be performed on both the top and bottom eyelids. Blepharoplasty does not fix dark circles, crow's feet, or other eye problems. The procedure concentrates exclusively on the removal of excess eyelid fat and tissue.
Droopy, sagging eyelids are most often genetic. The second most common cause is age. Most cosmetic eyelid surgeries are performed on men and women who are over the age of 35.
The procedure is fairly straightforward. An incision is made above or below the eyelid, and excess fat and tissue is removed. Loose, hanging skin is then tightened and tiny sutures are used to close the incision.
Most patients take about one week off to devote to recovery. During recovery, you'll have to clean your eyes frequently with a special solution - your plastic surgeon will teach you how to do this. Two or three days after surgery you'll be able to read and watch TV. About a week or two after that you'll be able to resume normal activities, although contact lenses may be uncomfortable for up to a month.
The incision used to implement the procedure is made along the natural curves of your eyelid. Usually after a month or two the incision scar will be nothing but a faint line, and will be very difficult to detect.
