BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are used to reduce the amount of wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes, between the brows, and around the mouth. Botulinum Toxin A, known as BOTOX® Cosmetic, works by weakening the facial muscles under skin that is wrinkled. As the muscle relaxes, it enables the skin to flatten, and therefore, reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

The benefits of this procedure usually last three to ten months. When facial muscles affected return to normal function, another injection is needed for the skin to retain its flat appearance.

BOTOX® Cosmetic has been used to treat facial muscle spasms for 15 years and no permanent side effects have been detected. In rare cases, complications may arise, including paralysis of nearby muscles. Otherwise, the only other side effect is possible bruising that can last 5 to 10 days. This can be easily covered with make-up.
