Face Lift

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a common surgical procedure used to reduce lines in the face and make the patient appear younger. Average facelift patients are generally men and women between the ages of 40 and 80 who want to improve a sagging appearance in the face and neck.

The results of a facelift include tightening the skin between the nose and mouth, tightening the skin around the jaw line and decreasing the appearance of fatty deposits around the neck.

A traditional facelift incision often begins in the hairline at the temples, continues around the ear and ends in the lower scalp. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the face, jowls and neck, and underlying tissue is repositioned, commonly the deeper layers of the face and the muscles are also lifted. Skin is redraped over the uplifted contours and excess skin is trimmed away. A second incision under the chin may be necessary to further improve an aging neck.

There are different types of facelifts such a limited incision face lift or a neck lift. The type of lift needed is determined after a full consultation and examination is performed, customizing the procedure to the patient’s needs.

Most of the visible signs of surgery will dissipate within three weeks, with bruising and swelling healing in the first two weeks. Most scarring fades over time and is rarely noticeable. The biggest difference patients can count on is their renewed sense of youthfulness and self-confidence.
