Face lift - FAQ
What is a "face lift"?
The medical term for a "facelift" is rhytidectomy. It is a surgical process where the facial skin is tightened in order to remove lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. While a facelift does not stop the aging process, it does reduce some of the signs of aging by firming and tightening the skin.
Am I a candidate for a face lift?
Typical candidates are people 40 to 80-years-old who wish to remove the signs of aging from their face. Ideal candidates have sagging in their face and neck; yet still retain some skin elasticity.
What is the procedure like?
There are several types of facelifts - standard facelifts, mid-facelifts, neck lifts, and brow lifts. Regardless of the type, the same basic procedure is used. Incisions are made on the sides of the face. Excess fat is removed via those incisions, and excess facial skin is trimmed away. The remaining skin is tightened, which results in facial skin, which is now smooth, healthy-looking, and wrinkle-free!
What can I expect afterwards?
You can reasonably expect to look several years younger. However, there is recovery time. For about three weeks, your face will be bruised and swollen. Usually patients do not feel socially comfortable during the recovery time. However, once your face has healed, you can expect smooth, clear, younger-looking skin.
